Exploring, recording, and celebrating Cheltenham’s heritage
Cheltenham Local History Society was founded in 1982. Our ambition is to create a participatory, inclusive and friendly environment for our members to stimulate their interest, encourage involvement, and facilitate their understanding of Cheltenham’s heritage.
The Mayor of Cheltenham, Cllr Sandra Holliday, is our President.
2022 marks a special year for CLHS as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Since its establishment in March 1982, CLHS has gone from strength to strength and now counts around 350 people among its membership.
Apart from organising an interesting programme of meetings and lectures the Society is also arranging a series of special events and activities to celebrate its anniversary.
Our Chair, David Elder, has put together a short audio-visual presentation celebrating the activities of the Society since it was formed back in 1982. Please click here to view the presentation.
CLHS is affiliated to Cheltenham Arts Council and a member of the British Association for Local History, Gloucestershire Local History Association, Friends of Gloucestershire Archives and Bristol & Gloucestershire Archaeological Society.
