Alfred Miles Scrapbooks
Alfred Miles, a prominent local businessman and town councillor compiled a series of ten scrapbooks between 1925 and 1932, covering the history of Cheltenham and its surroundings from the formation of the fossils to the 1930s. The digitising and cataloguing of the 6,000 pages of the ten volumes was carried out by a group of the Society’s volunteers from 2016-2020.
Please read the supporting documents before searching the catalogue of scrapbook contents. The digitised images are available at Gloucestershire Archives, Alvin Street, Gloucester and at the Cheltenham Local Studies Library in Clarence Street.
A Civic Society Blue Plaque honouring Alfred Miles was unveiled by the Mayor of Cheltenham Councillor Steve Harvey, President of CLHS, at Mr Miles’ former residence, Potter House, St Anne’s Road, Cheltenham on 30th April 2022. Read more here.
