Alfred Miles Blue Plaque

On Saturday 30th April 2022, CLHS celebrated the unveiling of a blue plaque at Potter House, St Anne’s Road, Cheltenham, honouring Alfred Miles, antiquarian, carriage builder, preacher and local councillor. This was the first of our special events in celebration of our 40th anniversary, and marked the end of a four year project by members of the Society to catalogue the ten monumental scrapbooks created by Alfred Miles during the 1920s-1930s, comprising 9,000 pages of text and images detailing the history of our town.

The plaque was sponsored by the Cheltenham Civic Society and CLHS and unveiled by the Mayor of Cheltenham, Cllr Steve Harvey. Members of both societies, Alex Chalk MP, and residents of Potter House attended the event, and Sally Self gave a speech on Mr Miles’s achievements.
