Cheltenham South Town

Cheltenham Local History Society adopted the Cheltenham South Town project in November 2023, following the closure of the founding community group, Cheltenham Connect.

In the 19th century the name “south town” was applied to the area encompassing Bath Road, Suffolk Road, Shurdington Road and Park Place but, from the outset, the South Town project also included The Suffolks and Tivoli.

Please visit the richly illustrated Southtown website to see the historical commentaries on shops and businesses, starting with the development of the area in the 19th century, and sections on the Leckhampton tramroad, local residents’ memories and schools projects.
